Renowned for their biographical tales of anguish, LA prog/synth band, The Longing, unexpectedly turn their torturous tales inside-out as they choose the first single from their new deluxe album as an exposing spotlight on the horrors of the growing gun crime epidemic. Released on 24 August, ‘Monsters’ is the prelude to The Longing’s new album, ‘Tales of Torment Deluxe’ (out on 20 July).

‘Monsters’ is the anthemic mantra of every man, woman and child affected personally by gun crime. Engulfed by the unfurling horrors of TV screens which are broadcasting the tragedy of uncontrolled shooters rampaging throughout schools and public buildings in the US, founding member and lyricist of The Longing, Laura Bradley, seized the pen as her sword and began to fight back in the only way she knows how; through song. A rare side-step from the normal biographical tales that fans have come to expect from Laura Bradley.
“How do we grapple with the fact that our children are at risk of dying from school shooters, and our leaders only ever take momentary stands; waving words and promises that go un-kept,” comments Bradley. “When the change, that so desperately needs to happen, falls by the wayside, the next generation of leaders, these students, are emerging to protest the archaic laws and wave a flag of unity. “We don’t have to live this way, and they don’t have to die this way.” “
‘Monsters’ is a track of conscience and determination. The prominent pounding baseline mirroring the pelting of gun-shots, which forms the erratic backdrop upon which Bradley’s crystalline vocals pierce the melody with heartbreak and desperation. Clearly bitterly affected by the torture of gun crime across the US, Bradley quite literally pours her heart and soul into the very fibre of this angst- ridden cry for help.
Founded by LA based musician/singer/composer, Laura Bradley, The Longing are a 5-piece band who transcend over-simplistic genre categorisation, as they hover gloriously over the void between raw progressive metal and rock. Bradley has the ability to harness the power of her trademark angelic vocals, unleashing her voice with the spectral force of an emotional whiplash – that’s what instantly brings audiences to a standstill. Fuse this with Bradley’s impeccable poetic lyrics and compositional style and you begin to experience the energy igniting the ever-snowballing fanbase of The Longing. The band consists of guitarists John Huldt andMashadi Maximus, bassist Michael Wallace and drummer, Tom Plumb – all formally trained, seasoned session and touring musicians with numerous high-profile production and engineering credits.

With previous singles scooping countless radio airplay in the UK and 18 countries worldwide, plus UK Record of the Week, as well as numerous TV and movie slots including MTV, The Cannes Film Festival, a score for William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and a track from their current album chosen as the anthem for International Women’s Day 2017; The Longing’s vibrant talent transcends beyond prog/rock, tempting its haunting way into the mainstream.

Bold, brash and brandishing a sword at pointless shooters, ‘Monsters’ is The Longing’s most dramatic and poignant track to date.
