Introducing Kerry Goodhind, a home-grown singer/songwriter who steps onto the global music platform with her debut single, ‘The Shallow’, released 21 September. Initially spotted by BBC Introducing, the past couple of years have been a cascade of TV, radio and live slots, including a live TV performance for BBC Spotlight, regular interviews on BBC Introducing Cornwall and appearances at the Royal Cornwall Show and Port Eliot. Now, with a glittering collection of self-penned original material, Kerry Goodhind unveils her debut single, hotfooted by her debut album ‘Elevated’ released early 2019, and a string of live tour dates in the pipeline. Vocals – it’s the rich, powerful punch of those distinctive Goodhind vocals that hit you first, with their lush undertones and resonant full-bodied abundance. Having bagged a scholarship at Trinity College at the tender age of 14 to study ‘voice’ and ‘classical piano’, Kerry’s classical training took an exploration into genre experimentation, traversing through blues, jazz and soul; drawing on the influences of her Motown-rich childhood and sounds she was drawn towards such as Dusty Springfield, Enya, Florence and the Machine, London Grammar, Stevie Nicks, Etta James and Barbara Streisand. All intensely formidable female vocalists, which fuse into one glorious melodic melting pot to produce the signature Goodhind sound.

Kerry’s debut single, ‘The Shallow’ showcases this artist’s masterful ability to write highly compelling lyrical-rich melodies, which have the ability to beautifully carry her unique vocals through captivating mini snap-shots of Kerry’s life. Depicting the cut-throat determination of superficial individuals who’ll go to any lengths to achieve their own selfish goal, ‘The Shallow’ is a biographical excerpt from Kerry repertoire of life, mirroring those individuals who just ‘have to have’. Forceful and enthralling, Kerry’s crystalline vocals whip and weave their way around this stunning sound-bed of riffs and beats, delivering one of those instantly recognisable tracks that simply ‘sticks’ – perfect for radio.

An artist with a life-map abundant with wisdom, Kerry Goodhind waited until the time was right to pen lyric-rich songs which held resonance and meaning – the empty superficial love-song route just wasn’t enough for her. Kerry needed the maturity and experience to write from her own personal encounters in life. So she waited, and the wait was oh so worth it! At the age of 30, Kerry had penned enough tracks to make up her first unofficial album - and industry interest rapidly began to snowball. BBC introducing instantly sat up and noticed, pulling Kerry into numerous live shows the prestigious Royal Cornwall Show - her fanbase was now growing. A close label-signing with Sony Classics gave Kerry the impetus to set up her own label and to write her official debut album – which will be released later this year.

The album promises to be a bitter sweet tumultuous journey through Kerry’s life; a semi-biographical picture-book of Kerry’s relationship with life and music. Casting a revealing light on the nooks and crannies of a difficult industry, and the struggle between confidence and insecurities faced by an artist carving her way in music, the new album will be the epitome of honesty. Frustration and anger are pushed aside in the realisation that there’s always another way – always a positive outcome.
