The Saturdays sign US album deal: 'Fans are more accepting of us branching out now'

UK girl group The Saturdays have opened up about their decision to launch their music career stateside and explained that there's no better time to do it because people are more supportive in this day and age.

Speaking to Billboard.com, the 'All Fired Up' beauties admitted that they were initially concerned that their fans at home would turn their backs on them for starting out in another country, but were happy to be met with so much support:

"We were so afraid. We didn't want to leave England. Nowadays, luckily, [English] people are a lot more open to their favorite acts going to America. It used to be a little bit like, 'They're leaving us! They're going to the U.S. and they're never coming back!' People seem a little more accepting of that now."

Member Una Healy added: "We feel like the time is now for pop music coming from the U.K. and Ireland. But there's never been a girl band coming from there since The Spice Girls. It's time for us."

The ladies have inked a deal with Island Def Jam and Mercury Records for a U.S. album led by a currently undecided single coming in January next year. Healy continued:

"We've been together a long time now, five years. We're just starting fresh here. That's what its about. We've always wanted to come out here and go to different territories. We really feel ready now."

Speaking about the reality show that's been talked about in the press recently, The Saturdays revealed that they haven't confirmed such a project but would be interested:

"At the minute, we're here just to record an album and shoot the music video for the single. We haven't agreed to anything just yet, but it's an idea that will probably happen."
