The rumours are true - Shakira and Rihanna have recorded a duet together.

Speculation that the two superstars collaborated together recently surfaced when Pitbull let slip about Rihanna's busy schedule in an interview.

He said: "The person we were looking at first to work on ['Timber'] was Rihanna. There was something she had to do with Shakira, so she wasn't able to be on the record."

Both Rihanna and Shakira have now officially confirmed that they will release the track 'Can't Remember To Forget You' on January 13.

They both uploaded an image of two directors chairs sitting next to each other, with Shakira's name in prominence and Rihanna's with a 'featuring' tag.

The former meanwhile is expected to release her next studio album this year, with the first single due to land this month.

However, it is unclear whether the Rihanna duet will be her official comeback single.
