Shakira honoured as the Latin Grammy 'Person of the Year'

'Hips Don't Lie' superstar Shakira will be honoured as the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards person of the year.

The songstress will be given the impressive title at an exclusive ceremony that will be held on November 9 - a day before the official Latin Grammy Awards - at Mandalay Bay Convention Centre in Las Vegas.

She is also nominated for three other prizes at the prestigious event, including Album of the Year, and was selected as the person of the year because of her continued philanthropic efforts and contributions to Latin music.

In an official statement Shakira said, "It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music."

Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President of The Latin Recording Academy, added:

"We are honored to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally."
