Shayne Ward open to extending Corrie role: 'I'd jump at the chance to stay'

Shayne Ward says he would be keen on prolonging his role on Coronation Street.

The singer is due to star in the British soap as Aidan Connor, who is a distant cousin of the show's Michelle.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the former X Factor winner said that he has a one-year contract.

However, he would be happy to extend his stay on the popular soap.

Ward said: "I've signed for a year and I guess it's down to general public as to whether I stay after that.

"If they fall in love with the character, if it's going well and the storylines work, then I would absolutely love to stay. I'd be a fool to say that I want to leave - I'd jump at the chance to stay."

When asked if he will be keeping an eye on Twitter for reaction when he gets his debut, the singer said:

"It's my Twitter and it's not run by management, so I'll always be on it and I'll spend as much time as possible with the fans. Not everyone's going to like what you do, but that's the minority. It'll be nice to see nice messages from the majority of people."

Ward will make his Corrie bow on August 21.
