Starling return with 'Dream Again'

When Starling first strived for musical success, their dreams were born out of a mutual passion for crafting songs that made people ‘move both emotionally and physically’. Yet when it came to releasing their single ‘Dream Again’ in the UK last summer, they were torn by the turbulent process. Promised the world by quick-talking PR and Management companies, they put their faith and funds into the project they all loved so dearly. But in return they mostly received a chain of broken promises.

Despite receiving praise for debut single ‘Dream Again’ from a host of critics and tastemakers, the band were left feeling betrayed by the release process, but soon realised that the critical response and their loyal fan-base had in fact realised one of their initial ambitions. This love combined with their own passion means that instead of simply walking away, they have determined to go it alone and push ahead with the release of their album.

‘All our love and sweat is in every song, every part, every bit of the writing, production and recording process with no help from big producers, engineers or even string arrangers. We did every bit of it ourselves and loved it.'

With their tumultuous journey now behind them, they have decided to re-focus their attention on what initially mattered to them. ‘All any of us want to do is make music we like and to share it with people, so that's what we're coming back to with this and redefining success for ourselves. We're learning to celebrate a product we love and we’re throwing out the disheartening years of empty promises, and we'll no longer be seduced into thinking that whatever art makes more profit or acclaim has more value. All we want is for someone to find some enjoyment from what we've made with our hands.’

Kickstaring their campaign is the stadium filling anthem ‘Lights’. An uplifting singalong, ‘Lights’ epitomises Starling’s ability to write a hook driven pop rock song with inspirationally charged lyrics. Building on the strong framework that the equally compelling and uplifting single ‘Dream Again’, Starling’s debut album is packed full with 12 addictive sing-along gems. Alongside the two singles is the lighter in the air (or should that be phone?) epic ‘Stars In The Heaven’, the whirling bounce of ‘Fight Like You Mean It’, the reflective ‘Living A Lie’ and the soaring ‘You Can Feel Love’.

Having drawn comparisons to everyone from Keane to Eliza & The Bear, Coldplay to Muse, it is more than apparent that the band’s orchestrally charged sound has potential to fill the big arenas, but for now Starling are looking forward to just furthering the connection they have formed with their loving fans.

Given that they still enjoy making music, Starling are moving ahead under their own terms. Now a fully independent project, they are learning to ‘Dream Again’ as they build towards the release of their debut album.
