Sony Music Publishing today announced the expansion of its global publishing administration partnership with legendary singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Gates and his publishing vehicle, Kipahulu Music Co. The deal continues Gates’ long-established relationship with the company which began in the 1960s and covers iconic hits including “If,” “Everything I Own,” “It Don’t Matter To Me,” “Baby I’m-A Want You,” “Make It With You” and many more.

David Gates is widely known as the founder and frontman of the hit band Bread. Before his time in Bread, David also composed chart-topping songs for The Murmaids and The Monkees, and worked with Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Merle Haggard and more.

Lorilee Gates, who acted for her father in the deal said, “We’re excited for this next chapter with Sony. Dad’s signature melodies consistently make their way into homes and ears year after year, be it via big streamers, film and TV or good old-fashioned radio. Without fail, Bread continues to pop up somewhere in everyday life. Bread is part of the cultural fabric – it’s passed on by generation, and it’s absolutely wonderful.”

Bread’s second album On the Waters firmly established the band as a major act with the Billboard No.1 hit “Make It with You” in 1970. Bread later went on to chart eleven singles on the Hot 100, including “It Don't Matter To Me,” “If” and “Everything I Own,” among many others. The impact and staying power of Gates’ compositions are evidenced in the breadth of artists who have recorded his works, including Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Marc Anthony, Rod Stewart and Boy George, whose cover of “Everything I Own” reached no. 1 on the UK charts.
