Emerging Melbourne three-piece jade imagine offer a seamless blend of synthwave & art-rock. After signing to Courtney Barnett's Milk! Records for their debut EP in 2017 and supporting Julia Jacklin on tour last year, the band have recently signed to London-based record label Marathon Artists and are back with new single "Big Old House", which will come out on both Marathon Artists & Milk! Records.

Speaking about the meaning behind "Big Old House", jade imagine front-person Jade McInally said "This song came to me in a dream. I woke up and sang the melody into my phone. It’s about holding the mirror up to yourself. There is light in the dark. Letting yourself feel okay again. Rebirth. Getting back to basics. Musically, we channelled the inner Kraut to make the rock."

McInally went on to say "The film clip is an extension of the themes within song; it's about telling yourself in your darker moments to let the good things in, even if all you feel is negativity. James Thomson and the band directed it together, shooting between the Coburg pool, velodrome, and a warehouse in Fairfield in New South Wales that we usually rehearse at. I was particularly inspired by the lighting in Dario Argento's film Suspiria and the brainwashing content Kubrick's Clockwork Orange."

Before founding jade imagine, songwriter Jade McInally had been a stalwart of the indie scene for more than a decade. After winding her way to Melbourne from somewhere consistently sunny, McInally cut her live-performer teeth with her own electro project Tantrums, before playing in the bands of local favourites Jess Cornelius (Teeth and Tongue) and Jess Ribeiro.

After a spot of bedroom recording in 2016, McInally sent a bunch of the first jade imagine demos to Dave Mudie (drummer and Courtney Barnett-collaborator) who took the liberty of laying down some drums and steered pre-production. Buoyed by the outcome, McInally set about gathering band members: presently, the lineup revolves around producer/guitarist Tim Harvey (Emma Louise, Real Feelings) and James Harvey (Teeth and Tongue) on drums. It was from here they signed to Milk! Records to release their debut EP ‘What the Fuck Was I Thinking’ in April 2017.

Following this release, jade imagine went on to tour with the likes of The Pretenders, Angel Olsen, Benjamin Booker, Julia Jacklin, and Phantastic Ferniture. Their debut LP is expected later this year.
