Taylor Swift on dealing with fans: 'Sometimes I can't tell if they're excited or having a fit'

Country-pop sensation Taylor Swift has opened up about coming face-to-face with her fans and how she copes with their astonishment when they finally get to meet her.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1 today (October 9), the beauty explained that dealing with overexcited fans often makes her feel like she has to play the role of a paramedic:

'I'm cool, as long as it doesn't seem there's a medical issue at hand. Sometimes I have to check, 'OK, your hands are shaking. Is this you being excited or do I need to call an ambulance?' Like, sometimes it crosses over to, 'Is this how you get excited or are you having some sort of fit?'"

During her visit to the radio station, Swift performed a stunning rendition of Vance Joy's 'Riptide' and also treated listeners to an acoustic version of her track 'Shake It Off'.

She also spoke briefly about her forthcoming new album, '1989', and explained that it's not a 'break-up' record: "When I'm deeply hurt, I usually respond by writing exactly how I feel in a song, but I just haven't been devastated in the last couple of years. I made the decision to spend time on my own and figure out who I am. Emotionally speaking, '1989' is not a heartbreak record. My music is derived from what's happening in my personal life, and I haven't had my heart broken."
