Taylor Swift on writing: 'A key had unlocked this forbidden area of storytelling'

'Out Of The Woods' songstress Taylor Swift has revealed that hearing a song about a bad relationship as a teenager caused her to fall in love with songwriting in the story-telling vein.

Speaking to the Rolling Stone, the beauty explained that Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain' had a huge influence on her as a youngster and she knew that writing confessional or personal lyrics was definitely something she wanted to explore:

"I was the shot heard 'round the world that left everyone debating and wondering, 'Which famous ex-lover did she write it about?' I've felt the ripples of that blaring publicity curiosity affect my own lyrics. I was a poetry-obsessed preteen the first time I heard that incredibly genius kiss-off, 'You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you.' After hearing that, it was like a key had just unlocked this forbidden area of storytelling for me."

Swift, meanwhile, has just been chosen by Maxim magazine to top its annual Hot 100 list for the very first time and speaking about the honour, she confessed: "It's really nice and such an incredible compliment. This year has been my favourite year of my life so far. I got to make an album exactly the way I wanted to make it. I got to put it out exactly the way that I dreamed of putting it out."
