Taylor Swift director defends the 'Wildest Dreams' video

The director of Taylor Swift's latest music video has issued a public statement denying that it is a "glamorous version of the white colonial fantasy of Africa".

Joseph Kahn helmed the promo clip for 'Wildest Dreams', which was released at the weekend.

However, the video - which sees Swift on a movie set in Africa in the 1950s - has come under criticism for apparently showing a "whitewashed" version of events.

Kahn has now issued a statement to deny the accusations, saying: "This is not a video about colonialism but a love story on the set of a period film crew in Africa, 1950."

He continued: "The reality is not only were there people of colour in the video, but the key creatives who worked on this video are people of colour.

"I am Asian American, the producer Jil Hardin is an African American woman, and the editor Chancler Haynes is an African American man.

"We collectively decided it would have been historically inaccurate to load the crew with more black actors as the video would have been accused of rewriting history."
