Country-pop sensation Taylor Swift has been confirmed to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The ceremony is set to take place on September 6 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and she is expected to debut a song from her forthcoming new album, 'Red'.

Well-loved UK boyband One Direction are also due to perform at the event and a promotional clip for their impending awards ceremony appearance surfaced online earlier today.

Last week (August 13), the songstress unveiled her brand new single named 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' and since it was uploaded to video hosting site YouTube the cut has attracted more than 5 million views.

Tweeting on August 18 about the incredible support her fans have showed for the track so far, Swift wrote: "I want to thank you guys for giving me my biggest first week ever with "We are Never". I can't stop smiling. You guys are amazing!!'
