Brooklyn, (of course): In keeping with their unyielding community-minded programming ethos, Kings Theatre, Brooklyn is set to launch a series of intimate performances in their stunning lobby space, the first of which, dubbed Kings Comedy Lounge, is slated for Friday, July 19th at 8pm (doors at 7pm). Audiences are invited to freely check the reverberating sound of their own laughter in the splendor of the Theatre's intricately renovated grand entrance as there will be no shortage of inspiration…

Hosted and curated by the one and only Ray DeJon, a Brooklyn native and a veteran of the stage as MC, comedian and motivational speaker, the Kings Comedy Lounge is set for some top shelf entertainment. "It's a prestigious theatre. I went to Erasmus High School, and, back in the day, I loved to go to the movies there," says DeJon of the venue. "With this series, I feel like we're doing something to serve the community I grew up in by giving folks who can't afford the standard ticket price an added opportunity to experience the Theatre."

Incidentally, tickets are $20 in advance, and $30 at the door. Holders can expect a night of relentless laughs featuring an array of talented upstarts like, SMOKEY SUAREZ and TIMMY HALL along with others, many of whom are Brooklyn-based.

As for DeJon, he is widely recognized as the host of the prolific American music television program Video Music Box and has interviewed A-List celebrities including Biggie Smalls, Stevie Wonder, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Hart, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jamie Foxx and Alicia Keys. He is also the owner of Brooklyn's first Black-owned comedy club, Laffaholics, the launch pad for some of the New York City's best emerging comics and the set of Laffaholics Live, currently in its seventh season on BRIC-TV/Verizon Fios.

Kings Theatre General Manager, Stefanie Tomlin adds, "Kings Theatre is where culture is King, so we are always looking for ways to further diversify programming. The Kings Comedy Lounge, and the series as a whole, will give established up and coming artists alike an intimate setting to develop and showcase their talents while making the Theatre more accessible for patrons." Additional Lounge Series performances will feature everything from music sets to readings to spoken word events. Stay tuned by visiting http://www.kingstheatre.com.

By and large, as much as the Kings Theatre belongs to Brooklyn, it is specifically Flatbush's theatre, serving its surrounding enclave with consistency, passion and diversity. The Kings' upcoming program will not disappoint, offering stellar events on its mainstage, such as forthcoming performances from Phantogram, Sleater-Kinney, Jenny Lewis, the Wailers, and the Raconteurs, (among many others), a revisitation from the iconic author Ta-Nehisi Coates, a night with best seller, Malcolm Gladwell as he presents Talking To Strangers, both co-presented by Greenlight Bookstore, Baby Shark Live (for the kiddies), 2 nights of the legendary Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Live, and other film events, TBA. In addition to a vibrant lounge series, the Theatre will co-host a fair and fitness series with their neighbors from Crunch Fitness in the outdoor Courtyard space during the month of July, kicking off on July 22 at 6pm, which will also see a number of other exciting events. And last, but not least, interested parties can expect more Historic Tours of the Kings Theatre, now slated for August 3rd and August 17th.
