A rollicking, manic song that finds romance pitted against poverty and love-sickness. Between a puncturing melody made up of spiraling riffs and staccato percussion world, Matan KG steers Paper Idol towards his ever off-kilter and energetic brand of indie-rock."
- Grimy Goods

"The track builds itself from a sonic architecture of a '90s hip-hop sounding breakbeat with bright piano chords before collapsing into a dubstep chorus that wryly points fun at the conversations on wellness that pervade our culture."
- Under The Radar

Paper Idol has shared the second single and title track off of his upcoming EP Money For Flowers. "Money For Flowers" was premiered with Grimy Goods, praising, "“Money For Flowers” oozes with all the slick hooks and deeply burrowed angst of the best pop-rock pieces, pulsating with a rambunctious but raw style of storytelling in the vein of Bleachers."

On the track brainchild of Paper Idol, Matan KG, said, “I wrote ‘Money For Flowers’ at a particularly broke time in my life. I had just visited a girlfriend’s parents and promised that I would send them flowers as a thank-you; I remember thinking, ‘I don’t even have money for flowers.’ As a whole, the song is basically about impulsivity and fickleness in relationships. I did end up buying the flowers, by the way.”

Earlier this year, Paper Idol released first single, "I'm Fantastic." The Money For Flowers is set to be released later this spring, more information to come soon.

About

Paper Idol is the brainchild of Matan KG, former Wesleyan University neuroscience student. It all started in 2016 as a college dance-punk project with a ragtag rotating band, leaving Matan studying by day and collecting noise complaints by night. Inspired by nu-disco as much as art pop and indie rock, Paper Idol offers a rare combination of new-school production and old-school vibes.

In 2019, Paper Idol teamed up with Lowly records to released the blog-haus-inspired “Feel Real Pretty” which received steady airplay on Los Angeles’s KCRW, placements in CW’s Nancy Drew, and support from major Spotify & Apple Music editorial playlists. He also collaborated with future-funk producer Yung Bae on “Up All Night,” which was featured in Billboard’s “New Music Friday” and received considerable streaming support. Paper Idol also opened for big names in electronic music, including Sam Gellaitry and Louis Futon.

With his first single out, a EP-release, and a West Coast tour on the agenda, 2020 is set to be a big year for Paper Idol. The project performs as a hybrid electronic band featuring Adam Rochelle (Keys) and Victor Singer (Drums), and they’ll be opening for Jane Holiday at the Moroccan Lounge Feb.
