About

These Raven Skies

“Cathartic Hard Rock infused with 60’s Psychedelia and Esoteric Mysticism”

Returning from a six year sojourn, These Raven Skies fly high again with their distinct brand of mystic rock, forged in the fires of adversity and tempered by the sage production skills of Mr. Jeff Martin of The Tea Party.

“These Raven Skies”, the band’s debut album received international critical acclaim for seamlessly integrating barroom party anthems with Crowley inspired esoteric elements and even eastern mysticism, for an all encompassing hard rock meets world music experience. TRS’ single “No Need to Worry” even caught the attention of Motely Crüe’s Nikki Sixx, who declared it one of his Top Sixx picks for 2015! The band spent much of 2014-2015 touring in support of a virtual who’s who of hard rock and metal artists that included: Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Seether, Skillet, Buckcherry, Chevelle, Scott Weiland, The Tea Party, One Bad Son, Escape the Fate, Theory of a Deadman, The Darkness and more!

Exit These Raven Skies (2014)

Enter Soul on Fire (2020)

As one age ends and another begins, a new album is born and These Raven Skies return with Soul on Fire (October 30, 2020). Jeff Martin once again reprises his role as producer, as TRS paints epic soundscapes of long forgotten kingdoms, rollicking fields of emerald green, and straight up down on your luck rock ‘n roll mayhem. Prepare for new ethereal sounds and cathartic hard rock, infused with late 60’s psychedelia.

“Australia has been a really magical place for us in terms of inspiration – we recorded our debut record there with Jeff Martin and returned again recently to work on our follow up. There’s an ancient energy in the Byron Hinterland area that brings out the best in us. We had the pleasure of working with Jeff on our first record, so coming back was interesting because we had an established work flow and were able to communicate musically without holding back.” muses, guitarist, Alex Whitcombe.

Vocalist, JB Mason concurs: “Exactly. Recording Soul on Fire was a powerful experience and we were drawn into the energy of the land and the mystery of the ‘Black River’. Jeff and his family were welcoming and the overall vibe of our sessions was pretty relaxed. These are the types of experiences that stay with you for the rest of your life – hanging out in the jungle with your musical comrades is just that changes you.”

“The sophomore effort has always been difficult for bands. You see so many great artists hit the scene with an amazing debut, only to fall flat on their second album. Sometimes it’s the marketing behind it, or lack of marketing that makes it fail I guess. We were fortunate not to have any pressure or expectations surrounding this record, so at the end of the day, it’s an honest expression of where we were at the time we wrote it,” adds, drummer, Shand Munro.

“I agree with Shand’s comments. There were no expectations, no pressure and we really let the music do the talking. We’ll draw from 60’s psychedelia, world music, or whatever inspires us in the moment – we really don’t have any musical boundaries. As usual, we sketch out a bunch of ideas, create demos and then absolutely turn them upside down with Jeff in pre-production. It’s a crazy process! It can be tense at times, but the fact that everyone is committed to the creative journey, makes recording with TRS a surreal, almost out-of-body experience.” Trevor Landmark.

These Raven Skies are endorsed by Gibson USA and Mesa Boogie Amplification.
