Max George on The Wanted break: "There has been a lot of tension"

Following on from the news that British boy band The Wanted are to go on hiatus, Max George has opened up about the events behind this decision.

In an interview with The Sun, Max revealed that the band members' relationships with one another was a central factor in the band deciding to “pursue personal endeavours”.

George told the newspaper: “Over the past year there has been a lot of tension.”

The ‘All Time Low’ singer added: “Our personal lives drove us apart.”

He further explained: “Things started to happen and we were drifting. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn't The Wanted anymore.”

Another reason was the poor sales of The Wanted’s music which lead to them being dropped by their record label:

“Our record sales weren't what they were. We had to have an open and honest discussion about that because continuing, and without a label, is difficult.”

Max also revealed that he and his fellow band mate Nathan Sykes were both keen on the idea of pursuing projects outside of The Wanted.

25-year-old Max said: “Our manager Scooter Braun asked us who would want to take a step out after the tour and try to do their own thing. Me and Nathan both said we have other ambitions. We were more prepared than the others because we'd looked at how things had been going with the band over the past few months.”

The Wanted’s tour will visit locations in Europe throughout February and March and further US dates will follow in April and May.
