The Wanted become first act in 15 years to top Billboard's Pop Songs chart with a debut single

Boyband The Wanted have become the first act in 15 years to top the Billboard Pop Songs chart with their debut single.

The lads' track 'Glad You Came' marked their first U.S. release and it has now hit the No.1 spot on the Pop Songs chart. This impressive feat was last achieved by Hanson in 1997 with their first single 'MMMBop'.

Billboard has also confirmed that the last boyband to lead this chart was O-Town back in 2001 with 'All Or Nothing'.

Steve Bartels, Island Def Jam's President, explained that the popularity of the song is very honest and the group deserve every success stateside:

"Judging from the explosive reception to (the song) at radio and online, the appeal of that sound is as solid as ever, no matter how you describe it, a boy band or simply a male pop vocal group, which is what The Wanted is."

 

 

 

He also spoke about the way The Wanted have managed to reach out and create themselves a significant fanbase in America, adding: "we have seen proof of this over the past several weeks with sales and when the 'Glee' cast covered the song (on its Feb. 21 episode)."

"No matter what name you give The Wanted's style, people of all ages have connected with the group. That connection is priceless."
