The Wanted confirm Nathan Sykes will take "hiatus" to receive throat surgery

The Wanted have confirmed that Nathan Sykes will take a break from the band to receive throat surgery.

As previously reported, speculation emerged this morning that the singer would require an operation to remove a hemorrhaging nodule on his vocal cord and may need months to recuperate.

Tweets posted by the band and manager Scooter Braun seemingly backed up the news, but no official word had been issued at the time.

However, a statement has now been released by the band's publicist confirming the news. They said:

"We can confirm that The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will undergo specialist throat surgery on Thursday April 18 in Los Angeles and as such will be taking an unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted. The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible."

They continued: "The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the band's promotional commitments across the world."

Sykes meanwhile simply tweeted: "Can't sleep. So much on my mind.."
