Described by the late, great Bert Jansch as “the most underrated guitarist ever,” the legendary Wizz Jones is celebrating the milestone of his 80th birthday with a one-off concert at London’s Cadogan Hall on Wednesday 24th April 2019.

Wizz will share the stage with some very special guests from the world of folk and blues, including Ralph McTell, Steve Tilston, Dariush Kanani, Pete Berryman, Clive Carroll, Edwina Hayes and Simeon Jones.

With more names and some surprise appearances and birthday messages still to be added, this is a do-not-miss opportunity to see the last of the original folk guitar virtuosos standing, and join Wizz for what promises to be a truly unique and memorable evening of live folk and blues, featuring the frighteningly proficient guitar playing of Wizz Jones and the prestigious line-up of guests planned.

Originally inspired by seeing Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Wizz Jones has been performing and recording for over six decades, and has influenced hundreds of aspiring musicians in this time, including Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Rod Stewart, John Renbourn, Ralph McTell and Steve Tilston to name just a few.

Wizz learned his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry while playing in the coffee bars of London’s Soho in the late 1950s. In the 1960s, he followed the time-honoured buskers’ trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech, returning to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repertoire and a “right hand worthy of Broonzy”. He soon became the man to watch, as described by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones in his 2011 autobiography ‘Life’ and in May 2012 Bruce Springsteen opened his Berlin concert with Wizz’s song “When I Leave Berlin”.
