Talented British singer-songwriter Sadie Jemmett starts the new year with a special concert at the hip Paris venue Le Motel in the 11th arrondissement on Wednesday 8 January.

Sadie first made a name for herself in France as a composer for theatre, working with acclaimed theatre director Irina Brook on the hit production Resonances which played at the Théâtre de l'Atelier and starred French actress Irene Jacob.

This began a 15-year collaboration with Brook where Sadie composed music for some of her biggest shows including The Bonne Ame de Setchouan, featuring actress Roman Bohringer, at Theatre National de Chaillot, Paris. And also la Vie Materielle, which premiered in France at The National Theatre, Nice, after opening at the world famous La Mama Theatre in New York City.

“Sadie Jemmett is one of the most talented people I have met in my 25 years of directing theatre and operas. I have been lucky enough to be able to use her musical compositions for several of my shows, Resonance, Romeo and Juliet,The Bonne Ame de Setchouan, Peter Pan, la Vie Materielle,” said Brook.

Sadie is the sister of theatre director Dan Jemmett who has been based in Paris for over 20 years, and she has also written music for two of his shows, The Collected Works of Billy the Kid, which played at the Bouffe De Nord, Paris, and Clytemnestra Apocalypse at Theatre National de Nice.

As a singer-songwriter and performer in her own right, Sadie has released three studio albums and a live album to date, shaping her into a potent songwriter who stands in the great lineage of the art from classic era Joni Mitchell and Neil Young to the likes of PJ Harvey, and Nick Cave today, and yet who shines out as a profoundly unique voice.

Her latest release, Phoenix (TwoUpTwoDownRecords/Universal), has gained worldwide press and excellent reviews and features the single Don’t Silence Me, which was hailed by CBS and BBC as an ‘anthem for our age’.

It was originally written for her friend, actor Mhairi Morrison, after Morrision confided in Sadie that she had been a victim of sexual abuse by a famous director. The song was picked by the #metoo movement and a video was made featuring over 50 women, this led to global interest after the story was covered by CBS and The BBC.

Sadie was invited to perform Dont Silence Me at SACD in Paris, followed by a panel discussion hosted by Morrision and featuring French victims of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.

“The power of art to make a change in society is incredible and Sadie exemplifies that in her work. Her music has been a platform to ignite discussion, encouraging others to speak out against what’s been left hidden too long within the entertainment industry. I was extremely humbled and touched that she had heard my pain and written me a song to help me find my voice and to be able to stand back up again,” Morrison said.

Speaking about the forthcoming concert at Le Motel Sadie said: “I am delighted to be performing again in Paris, it has always been such an inspiring and exciting place for me, and I am looking forward to sharing my latest songs, what a great way to start the new decade!”

Her date at Le Motel is Sadie’s first of the year, followed by shows in London and, she hopes to be back in France as part of a European tour later in 2020.
