The track is a poignant tale of salvation with staccato beats and blurry blues melodies interlaced with outré samples forming a sonic collage – quickly becoming a signature of the young artist. “Helen” follows the release of Oliver’s critically acclaimed debut single “Switched Up” which received high praise from noteworthy media including New York Times, FADER and SPIN.

Oliver’s unique sound and inspiration speak to his story: “Last year I moved back to England. The song feels gritty and raw because that’s how I felt being back home in that environment. This guy owned a small complex behind an automobile warehouse and agreed to let me make as much noise as I want if I paid him 500 quid. I’d ride my bike back and forth every day with all my equipment in my backpack. This is the first song I made there.”

Media praise for Oliver Malcolm:

“A mind-blowing introduction...” — Lyrical Lemonade

“A sleek hybrid of rap and R&B” — FADER

“The drums lurch toward the off beats, some looped guitar picking tugs against that pulse and Malcolm’s voice is a rattled, quavery moan...Everything stays off-kilter for the two and a half paranoid minutes of ‘Switched Off’ by Oliver Malcolm” — New York Times, Playlist

“Oliver Malcolm's 'Switched Up' Is Intoxicating… new single 'Switched Up' is a mesh of influences, a confluence of sounds, a mosaic of techniques.” — CLASH

About

About Oliver Malcolm
Oliver Malcolm got his start early by teaching himself how to spin records at the age of 12. Shortly after, he downloaded Logic teaching himself how to produce -- working with IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego Tinashe and more. Now 20, Oliver has developed his own voice. Touching everything from the production, vocals, song writing, engineering, mixing and mastering. Oliver’s sound is unique and does not fit the mould of one genre. A multi-disciplinary at heart, this is just the beginning of what music lovers can look forward to from the new artist.
