About Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation:
The Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation (KHF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Kim and Jack Johnson that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaiʻi. KHF’s mission is to provide students with experiences that will enhance their appreciation for and understanding of the environment so they will be lifelong stewards of the earth. While the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation participates in a variety of environmental education initiatives in Hawaiʻi, its five main school programs include ʻĀINA In Schools, 3R's School Recycling, Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation Field Trip Grants, Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation Project Grants, and Plastic Free Hawaiʻi. KHF recently acquired 8 acres of land in the heart of Haleʻiwa town with a vision to establish agricultural, educational, and retail activities that benefit the community and promote local food, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. About Kōkua Festival:
Held on Earth Day weekend at Honolulu’s Waikiki Shell from 2004-2010, the Kōkua Festival served as both a community-centered celebration of music and environmental awareness and as the major fundraiser for the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation. Not only a showcase for live music, the Kōkua Festival also served as a major educational event where over fifty eco-friendly businesses and local environmental groups interacted with fans in the Kōkua Village, featuring sustainable products, alternative-energy demonstrations, local food and beverages, and activities for kids. As a leader in low-impact concert production, the Kōkua Festival was a model of event greening measures, including a bike valet service, biodegradable concession-ware, reusable merchandise, zero-waste and water refill stations, locally made biodiesel in generators, and locally sourced carbon offsets. About Jack Johnson:
Jack Johnson grew up surfing and playing guitar in Hawaii. Since 2001, he has released 7 studio albums and 2 live albums that have sold over 25 million copies worldwide. His Brushfire Records label and touring crew have been leaders in the greening of the music industry and his All At Once social action network connects fans with local non-profits at each tour stop.
