Of the cover, Jacob said: "This song kept me company throughout my early years in university. I recorded this about 3 years ago with my friend and collaborator who goes by the name Sillkey. I’ve always loved the song and with everything that’s happening and a recent loss in my life the song came back to me, so I wanted to share with my friends in case you guys find something you need in there like I did."

Jacob released his debut album Village in late 2018 via Interscope Records/Polydor Records/Universal Music Canada, the follow up to a trio of highly praised EPs. Inspired by the proverb “it takes a village” the album explores the human themes and experiences, both good and bad, that universally shape our lives. The album includes singles "Be Good To Me (feat. Seinabo Sey)," "Love Ain’t Enough," "Chainsmoking," "Unknown (To You)" and "Slow Up." Jacob also released a brand new version of his track "Love Ain’t Enough" in 2019, featuring grime rapper Ghetts.

In conjunction with the album’s release, YouTube hand-selected Jacob as their Artist on the Rise. He performed tracks "Slow Up" and "Chainsmoking" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, after a live performance of his critically-acclaimed song "Unknown (To You)" impressed on Later… with Jools Holland. The Village tour marked Jacob’s second headlining world tour, following the previous years’ Into The Wild tour. Jacob completed the sold out UK/European leg at the end of the 2018, including a show at London’s Roundhouse, before embarking across the states.

From opening for artists including Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith, and Alicia Keys to playing major festivals like Coachella, SXSW, Austin City Limits, and Lollapalooza, Jacob has captivated audiences around the globe. His live shows have been raved about, with LA Weekly proclaiming “UK-based, Nigeria-born artist Jacob Banks lets his art speak for itself, proving he’s a force to reckon with in the music game,” and Atlanta’s WABE declaring “Banks is proving himself one of the most promising up and coming musicians today.”
