September 21, 2020 — (Hollywood, CA) — GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi’s single “Before You Go” has just hit No. 1 on Mediabase Top 40 and Billboard’s Pop Songs and All Format Radio Songs charts. In a milestone for the multi-platinum-selling Scottish artist, the track has shattered the record for longest journey to No. 1 in the history of both charts, completing a record breaking 36 weeks to No. 1 on Mediabase and 37-week climb to No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart, surpassing the 31-week climb of Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid’s “Eastside” in 2018-19. On the Radio Songs chart, “Before You Go” replaces The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” as the longest-reigning No. 1 in chart history. Capaldi joins an elite club which includes, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars as the only solo artists to rule both the Pop Songs and Radio Songs charts with their first two entries as “Before You Go” follows his GRAMMY® Award nominated, No. 1 breakthrough hit “Someone You Loved.”

One of three new songs included on Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (Extended Edition) — an expanded version of Capaldi’s widely celebrated debut album — “Before You Go” first premiered in November 2019. Now certified platinum, the song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit #5 at Pop radio and #1 at Adult Pop radio, in addition to topping the UK Singles and Irish Singles charts (making it Capaldi’s second #1 in the UK and third #1 in Ireland). To date, “Before You Go” has amassed over one billion streams worldwide.

Showcasing his powerful vocals and poignant songwriting, “Before You Go” was inspired by Capaldi’s aunt, who committed suicide when he was a young boy. “Before You Go” is both the most honest and personal song I’ve ever written,” says Capaldi. “It’s about loss, regrets, and the fear that we sometimes never understand what someone is going through despite our best want to be everything that person needs.”

“Before You Go” is Capaldi’s second major hit single following the breakthrough success of his platinum-selling smash “Someone You Loved,” a 2019 release nominated for a GRAMMY® Award in the prestigious Song of the Year category. Recently nominated in the PUSH Best New Artist category at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (where he delivered a breathtaking performance of “Before You Go”), Capaldi is now at work on his sophomore album.

“Before You Go” (is) a full-fledged follow-up hit…” - BILLBOARD

“From listening to his raspy vocals and heartbreaking lyrics, it might be hard to imagine they belong to such an effortlessly funny, giddy, and grounded guy, but within 20 seconds of talking to the singer, it’s clear he’s not here to brood or boast…it’s pretty clear why his music is climbing the charts and he’s selling out gigs.” - ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
