Valley joins the vast Up Next roster of past Canadian talent includes Grammy-nominated and critically lauded talent like 6lack, Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez, Orville Peck, and Tate McRae. Up Next is Apple Music's monthly artist program geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising star talent. Each month, Apple Music's editorial team selects an artist to promote, utilizing the full force of the platform to raise awareness of the artist to its growing global audience of music fans. This past March, Apple Music expanded the Up Next program to feature localized campaigns that highlight artists across the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia/New Zealand, South Africa.

Valley wrote and co-produced “Oh shit…are we in love?” with Jorgen Odegard (Justin Bieber “Holy”). In reflecting on the new song, lead vocalist Rob Laska explains, “‘Oh shit…are we in love?’ In a way feels like Valleys first love song while simultaneously playing the role of an end of summer anthem. We find it’s sometimes tricky as songwriters to write about love in a form that feels honest but not too kitschy or on the nose. We knew we wanted to write something that people can really sing with us live and make it a special moment. Lyrically, ‘Oh shit’ is about the realization that what you’ve been looking for the whole time has been right in front of you. The happiness of finding your person, whether that’s a significant other or a best friend or your dog.”

Laska recalls the track coming together and working with Odegard, “It was the height of the pandemic, and we were writing over zoom at a cabin we booked for a few weeks. I remember life in general was at a standstill and we wanted to make something that felt uplifting and reflective of summers spent in our hometown before some of us moved away. Jorgen sent over that piano loop you hear at the start of the song and the drum groove which felt so sonically fresh for us. We were instantly hooked, and the song pretty much wrote itself! The start of the song also features a voice note of us figuring out what the chorus melody and lyrics will be which felt fun to start with! The chorus of ‘Oh Shit’ really feels so special to us and it’s such a sing along. We cannot wait to get back on tour and get the whole crowd to sing it with us!”

Valley shot an official music for “Oh shit…are we in love?” and worked with animator Joshua Drury to take the visuals to another dimension. Watch the video here.

2021 has been nonstop for Valley with a steady release schedule, dropping hit after hit since the beginning of the year including “Tempo,” “SOCIETY” and the explosive single, “Like 1999”. “Like 1999” which genesis traces back to a viral TikTok post that drove the band to finish the track in under 48 hours, went on to eclipse over 100 million streams while breaking boarders, appearing on viral charts in the U.S., Philippines, Korea, Japan and more. While “SOCIETY” garnered over 10,000 streams in only three hours after being released.

After an unprecedented year for live music, Valley are excited to reconnect with their fans to perform across North America. The band played their first American festival at Wunderbus in Columbus, OH this past weekend and will perform at Bottlerock Festival in Napa Valley this coming Sunday. Tonight, Valley will be playing Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN with The Band Camino during their small run of tour dates. Then Valley join COIN on a 17-date North American tour this fall which includes a show in Vancouver, BC. See the full list of tour dates below, tickets are available on Valley’s website.

ABOUT VALLEY

Valley – comprised of Rob Laska, Karah James, Mickey Brandolino and Alex DiMauro – have spent the past two years developing organic buzz through a personal and intimate connection with their fans.

Valley put together alternative pop with the care, adventurousness, and personal touch of a handmade burned CD. Cycling through moods like your favorite throwback Pinterest board, the Toronto quartet amplify sticky hooks through eloquent songcraft that’s cognizant of what came before, yet ready for the future. In 2016, Valley formed by accident when a local studio double booked them. During high school, Mike and Karah played in one band, while Rob and Alex played in another. They introduced themselves with self-written, self-produced releases, including the EP This Room Is White (2016), the full-length debut MAYBE (2019) and their last EP sucks to see you doing better (2020). They joined Lennon Stella and The Band CAMINO on sold out tours across North America and even picked up a 2020 JUNO Award nomination in the category of “Breakthrough Group of the Year.”
