Jack White named Nashville ambassador

Jack White has been named an ambassador of Nashville, Tennesse, despite being born and raised in Detroit.

The White Stripes star was honoured with the Music City Ambassador Award for promoting the city through his music.

"Jack White's individual talent and unique creative spirit bridges gaps between genres and generations and I couldn't be more pleased to thank him for his work on behalf of the music industry and its hometown," Nashville mayor Karl Dean said.

"Every day we're excited to be in a city that truly fosters local music and businesses and new ideas," White told the audience at Saturday night’s ceremony.
