Yoko Ono to celebrate John Lennon's birthday by lighting Imagine Peace tower in Iceland

YOKO ONO returns to Iceland this weekend where, on Sunday October 9, she will re-light the spectacular light tower IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, in celebration of John Lennon’s birthday that day. Yoko will be joined by family and friends from all around the world.

Yoko has also arranged that the public ferry to Videy will be free from 6.30pm – 7.30PM and returning between 9pm and 10pm on October 9.

Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band will also play a very special concert at Harpa in Reykjavik on October 13, part of the Iceland Airwaves Festival.

Imagine Peace Tower is an outdoor work of art conceived by Yoko Ono in memory of John Lennon. It was unveiled on October 9 2007 in a very special ceremony attended by Yoko, her son Sean and daughter Kyoko, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Icelandic dignitaries and friends from around the world. The tower is intended to be a beacon for world peace and symbolises the struggle for peace begun by Ono and John Lennon in the late 1960s.

Each year the tower is lit between October 9 and December 8, the day John Lennon was killed. It is also lit at various other times of the year. This year the tower will be lit at 8pm in Iceland (9pm London, 5am Tokyo, 4pm New York, 1pm Los Angeles). A live stream can be viewed at www.imaginepeace.com.

Yoko Ono said today: “I always look forward to returning to Iceland each year to light Imagine Peace Tower. As the light shines out into the night let’s all join together to THINK PEACE. ACT PEACE. SPREAD PEACE. IMAGINE PEACE.”
