Dutch Singer-Songwriter-Composer ROMY Debuts Single Track BOY on Soundcloud
Releasing Single to iTunes & Spotify April 2016
For Immediate Release - New York, NY - March 16, 2016 - Take a listen to ROMY and her new single “Boy”on Soundcloud.
“Boy” has a strong backing beat, aggressive tempo, coupled with deeply emotive lyrics and punchy powerhouse vocals that only a break-up could inspire.
“I realized after not only one break-up but a succession of break-ups, the concept of codependency and my role in it. I wrote this song from a very defeated and angry place,” Romy shares.
“There’s duality and complexity to this conversation. I think women are really strong. In my songwriting process, I find my strength. That explains the lyric “you let me fly, boy, my wings are fine, boy ... I’m fine, I’ll be fine” I’m okay with saying at this point in my life that I don’t know what real love is. So that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I don’t think I’m alone and I hope my song empowers other women,” Romy continues.
Romy started playing piano and writing songs at age 6 and eventually became a DJ in Amsterdam. She is classically trained but boasts more about her large house vinyl collection. She came up as an artist in the vibrant house scene in Amsterdam. She was among the first to support and participate in Amsterdam’s Dance Valley, now drawing about 80,000 people per year.
She moved to NYC to focus on making her music full-time. It took her time and money to write and record with the right collaborators, including Alex Sterling, with whom she co-produced “Boy.” She also self-released a full-length Unbound in 2014.
London Grammar and Florence Welch both influence ROMY. Her songs are most influenced however, on things that are happening around her. She will continue writing, recording, and sharing her songs on streaming outlets like Soundcloud and Spotify in 2016. Stay in touch and up-t0-date online at all social destinations.
