Ed Sheeran's 'X' is the Christmas No.1 album

Ed Sheeran’s 'X' has broken yet another Official Chart record as it scores the biggest one-week sales of any artist album in 2014.

The album, which racks up its eleventh week at the Official Albums Chart Number 1 spot today, has shifted over 214,000 copies in the past seven days, giving Ed the biggest one-week sales tally of any artist album this year.

The million-selling LP has spawned four Official Singles Chart Top 40s, including No.1s 'Sing' and 'Thinking Out Loud'.

Now That’s What I Call Music! 89 holds the overall title for fastest-selling album of 2014, shifting over 224,000 copies in its first week on sale in November.

Elsewhere, Sam Smith’s 'In The Lonely Hour' holds firm at No.2. Earlier this week, the Official Charts Company confirmed that In The Lonely Hour is the only artist album to sell over one million copies in both the UK and US in 2014.

Previous chart toppers, Olly Murs’ 'Never Been Better' (No.3), George Ezra’s 'Wanted On Voyage' (No.4) and Take That’s 'III' (No.5) complete today’s Top 5.

There are two new entries in today’s Official Albums Chart Top 40. US rapper Nicki Minaj is at No.22 today with 'The Pinkprint'. The LP is Nicki’s third studio album and features Top 40 singles; 'Pills N Potions', 'Anaconda' and 'Only'.

Aussie quartet 5 Seconds of Summer are at No.31 today with their first live album, 'LIVESOS'.
