ITV recommissions a second series of Jack Dee comedy Bad Move

It is announced today that ITV comedy 'Bad Move' has been recommissioned for a second series by ITV Comedy Commissioning Editor Saskia Schuster, and will be returning with six brand new episodes in 2018.

Written by Jack Dee, Pete Sinclair and produced by Open Mike Productions , 'Bad Move' stars Jack Dee as Steve and Kerry Godliman as his wife Nicky who play a married couple both on their second marriages and have decided that moving to the countryside from the city is the answer to all their dreams.

Joining Jack and Kerry and returning for series two will be neighbours Matt (Miles Jupp) and Meena (Manjinder Virk), local rock star Grizzo (Seann Walsh), father in-law Ken (Philip Jackson) and Shannon (Sue Vincent) - the local shopkeeper.

With the first series airing at 8pm on Wednesday nights, 'Bad Move' proved to be a ratings success for the channel with an impressive audience of 4.3 million (22% share) for episode 1 with a consolidated figure of 4.9 million. This made it the highest viewed comedy show on television that week. Overall, the series averaged over 4 million viewers per episode.

Jack Dee said: “I’m naturally delighted that I’ll be working again with the brilliant Bad Move cast. The show has clearly struck a chord with a great many viewers and we are very much looking forward to dumping more country life problems on Nicky and Steve in series 2.”

ITV’s Comedy Commissioner Saskia Schuster added “The charms of country life will no doubt continue to elude Steve and Nicky, as their rural domesticity brings increasing aggravation and tribulation.   We'll be seeing a lot more of Steve's unguarded responses to daily small scale irritations, which will of course escalate to become his and Nicky's undoing.  Will he never learn?”

Open Mike Productions MD Andrew Beint said “We can't wait to see what happens to Steve and Nicky in series 2 and are thrilled once again to be working alongside the brilliant writing talents of Jack and Pete and everyone in the ITV comedy team".

Bad Move series 2 is commissioned by ITV Comedy Commissioning Editor Saskia Schuster, written by Jack Dee and Pete Sinclair and produced by Open Mike Productions with Andrew Beint executive producing.

Notes to Editors:

Bad Move synopsis: Bad Move is a new single camera scripted comedy for ITV by Open Mike Productions written by Jack Dee and Pete Sinclair.

Starring Jack Dee as Steve and Kerry Godliman as his wife Nicky, they play a married couple who are both on their second marriages and have decided that moving to the countryside from the city is the answer to all their dreams.

They’ve watched all the TV relocation shows and read the glossy lifestyle magazines and fell in love with the idea of ‘getting away from the rat race’.

Unfortunately living a simple existence in beautiful surroundings is not all it’s cracked up to be and Steve and Nicky soon find living in the countryside might not be for them after all. Especially when they discover that the house they’ve bought is situated in what locals refer to as ‘The Dip’ – a place where internet signals cannot reach, but floodwater most definitely can.

Thanks to unscrupulous estate agents, architects and builders squeezing more money out of the couple, they find themselves in a financial situation that means there is no going back.

The couple must put on a brave face as the last thing they want is for all their friends back in the city to be proven right after they all said it was a ‘bad move’.

Filmed in the picturesque North Yorkshire Moors, Bad Move is a family comedy set in the most stunning countryside location, where their nearest neighbours Matt (Miles Jupp) and Meena (Manjinder Virk) annoyingly make it all look so easy. Other villagers include Grizzo (Seann Walsh) - a rock star that needs village life to keep him grounded , Ken  (Philip Jackson) - Steve’s no-nonsense disapproving father in-law, and Shannon (Sue Vincent)  - the local shopkeeper
