Mary J Blige's Burger King commercial pulled
Fast food chain Burger King has been forced to pull a brand new commercial that starred Mary J Blige after the singer expressed her disappointment with the final edit.
Speaking to TMZ about her involvement with the company, Blige explained she was initially excited about the opportunity, but the finished advertisement was not what she expected and it left her feeling let down because of the racial stereotypes it perpetuated:
“I agreed to be part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that's not what was happening in that clip."
"I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But if you're a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out.”
A representative from Burger King also spoke out on the commercial's cancellation and admitted that the version that was released wasn't the final one, and the company is sorry for its actions:
"Unfortunately, the Mary J Blige commercial was released prematurely before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained. We would like to apologise to Mary J and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final. We hope to have the final ad on the air soon.”
