OutKast's Coachella set cut short

OutKast unexpectedly had their headlining set at Coachella cut off last night (April 11).

Andre 3000 and Big Boi’s bill-topping set at the Californian music festival was the debut reunion performance for the hip hop pair.

Taking to the stage at 11.30pm for a set that included a host of hits – such as ‘Hey Ya!’, ‘Miss Jackson’, ‘So Fresh, So Clean’ and ‘The Way You Move’ – OutKast’s microphones were switched off at 1am and they were prevented from bringing on Killer Mike for their finale of ‘The Whole World’.

Andre 3000’s mic was temporarily turned back on so that he could speak to the crowd. He said: “I know it’s kinda weird but thank you for coming out. You know, 20 years later and s**t but thank you for coming out.”

Local newspaper The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported: “The group was able to thank the fans despite the sound being cut for Mike’s performance because their microphones were turned back on. The crowd started booing when the microphones were cut off and continued to boo after they came back on.”

OutKast’s reunited live dates continue with a further 39 festival appearances including a second Coachella show on April 18 and UK slots at Bestival and Wireless.
