Pharrell Williams will receive a special award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The singer will receive the Fashion Icon Award at the Lincoln Center on July 1.

The US star will be honoured for his fashion impact on popular culture.

President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America Diane von Furstenberg said:

"If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him."

Williams is noted for his sharp style, with his infamous 'Grammys hat' grabbing attention last year.

He also co-founded the Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear brands.

The previous winner of the Fashion Icon Award was Rihanna.
