Sam Smith wants to bring 'timeless element' back to music

Sam Smith has revealed his desire to make music "timeless" again.

The singer evokes a modern soul feel and his 2014 debut album 'In The Lonely Hour' topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

Speaking in a new interview with GQ, with Brit said that he wants to make music that stands the test of time.

Smith said: "I sound awful saying this all the time, because it sounds like I'm slagging off current pop stars, which I'm not, because I love pop culture.

"But I feel like class and romance have gotten lost. We've become a bit lazy, not just in terms of music. I miss the days when girls would wear full long dresses and just stand onstage and sing. That's what I'm trying to bring back: that timeless element. I want to create music that people will be listening to in fifty years, you know?"

The singer meanwhile said in the same interview that he feels some of his pop peers don't have the right attitude and see him as a rival.
