Selena Gomez has lavished praise on her fans after bagging a special Teen Choice award.

The US star was presented with the coveted Ultimate Choice Award at the ceremony on Sunday (August 10).

She used her acceptance speech to pay tribute to her devoted fans, saying:

"Thank you so much! I have to be honest - especially this month - I cannot thank you guys enough. You remind me, amidst all the stuff that we deal with personally, what's important, and that's giving and loving and caring about each other. I'm not trying to preach or any of that. It's just that you guys make me better, and I just really appreciate everything that you've done.

"I want to thank my mom so much because she's the greatest human being in the world, and she's strong and she's given up her life for me. She's so beautiful. She's incredible. This never belongs to me. This only goes to you. Thank you for letting me do what I love."

Gomez later took to Instagram to post a photo of herself getting teary on stage, adding:

"Why do I always make this face?! I can't help but get all emotional and mess up my words but man, I am more in love with you guys than ever. Weather it's tweet or a surfboard. THANK YOU for your embrace. No matter what."
