U2's 'Songs of Innocence' downloaded over 2 million times

U2's new album has been downloaded over two million times since it was given away online.

Last week (September 9) the Irish rockers announced their return to music by surprising fans with the free album 'Songs of Innocence' on iTunes.

It has been confirmed that by September 12 the record had been snapped up over two million times.

The record will be available on the digital music service for free until October 13.

Apple, however, have now made a specific page to allow users to easily delete the album from iTunes.

Many music listeners were aggrieved when they found that 'Songs of Innocence' had been placed into their library without their knowledge.
