Elton John performs with Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes

Sir Elton John has performed live with Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes.

The veteran star paid tribute to the new generation of musicians by teaming with the stars at a gig in Los Angeles on Wednesday (January 13).

He brought Lovato out at the the Wiltern Theater show to perform 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'.

John also performed with Shawn Mendes on 'Tiny Dancer'.

The Brit quipped: "Our first guest: If I was 50 years younger than I am now, I'd still be one year older than [Mendes]."

The collaborations were completed by Fall Out Boy mainman Patrick Stump, who helped out on 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting'.

John meanwhile also paid tribute to the late David Bowie with a special piano piece.

He included nods to the likes of 'Ground Control to Major Tom' and 'Space Oddity' to honour the musician, who died recently aged 69 from cancer.
