Katy Perry has inked a new tattoo in honour of the Super Bowl.

The pop star played the coveted half-time slot at the American football event - which has a TV audience of over 100 million - in Arizona on Sunday (February 1).

Writing on Instagram after the show, Perry revealed that she had a tattoo done on her finger in dedication of the event.

She had the numerals 'XLIX' - the number of this year's Super Bowl - inked onto one of her fingers.

The singer wrote: "I thought it would be appropriate to draw blood tonight...XLIX."

Perry played alongside special guests Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott at the show.

The game meanwhile saw the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.
