Katy Perry slams product placement

The release of Britney Spears' new video for 'Hold It Against Me' has been met with a mixed reception because of its overt approach to product placement, and it's caused pop star Katy Perry to give her opinion on the matter.

The visuals show close ups of Sony, the cosmetics brand Make Up Forever, Spears' own perfume 'Radiance' and the dating site Plenty Of Fish.

On February 18, the day after Spears' video was unveiled, Katy Perry's tour support act Marina Diamandis tweeted:

"What is consensus on product placement in videos? As a fan, do you prefer product placement if it means bigger budget vid?"

"Or smaller budget vid free of the temptations of 'Plenty O Fish' etc?"

Perry responded to the question with:

"@MarinasDiamonds do it w/style & grace...Not so in ur face like some. U hv to get creative w/it. Some artists don't care tho, & u can tell."
