John Legend says Donald Trump's presidential term might change music

Singer-songwriter John Legend wonders if Donald Trump's election success, which landed him the position of President of the United States of America, will inspire a musical shift.

He told Britain's The Times newspaper that the last time there was such a political divide in the U.S., creativity changed as well and music became perhaps that much more significant than it already was:

"The Vietnam war and the struggle for civil rights ushered in a golden era of soul and rock and folk music. Perhaps that will happen again, but hopefully he won't drive us to as much turmoil as that era had."

John Legend previously spoke out against Trump and was shocked by the election result: "I wanted us to choose progress over yearning for some long-lost mythical era when America was supposedly greatest. I wanted us to destroy the highest glass ceiling instead of electing an admitted sexual assaulter. But we did not. These are the election results and all of us will have to learn to deal with it. I will not give up though. I will continue to be aware and vigilant. I will continue to speak out for justice."
