Whitney Houston's funeral service set for Saturday in Newark

The funeral for Whitney Houston has been confirmed to take place on Saturday, February 18 and it will be a private event with an invite-only guest list.

The service will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark and the owner of the Whigham Funeral Home, Carolyn Whigham, explained in a statement that there will not be a public memorial or wake:

"They have shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell. The family thanks all the fans, the friends and the media, but this time is their private time."

The untimely death of Houston shocked the music world on Saturday, February 11 and it has now been revealed that her body was discovered underwater in the bath tub at the hotel she was staying in.

Los Angeles County coroner's assistant chief Ed Winter also told press that while there were prescription medication bottles in the superstar's bedroom, there were no more than an ordinary household might have in its bathroom cabinet:

"There weren't a lot of prescription bottles. You probably have just as many prescription bottles in your medicine cabinet."
