Mariah Carey on injury: 'I downplayed the seriousness of the damage'

Songstress Mariah Carey has opened up about the fall she suffered on a summer video shoot and admitted that it was far more serious than she initially let on.

Back in July, it was revealed that she had dislocated her shoulder while shooting the video for 'Beautiful' and as time went on, more details about the accident were unveiled and it became apparent that she had also fractured her ribs causing some nerve damage.

During a new interview with Extra, the superstar confessed that she hid the true nature of her injuries from fans as the situation was far more serious than the press originally reported: "I dislocated my shoulder, my ribs. There was nerve damage. It was very serious and I downplayed the seriousness of the situation."

Carey added that the recovery has been lengthy, but she's almost back to full health: "We are almost at a place where it's 100% better, but you can't really rush it. It is what it is."

She also joked to E! that the accident was on par with giving birth to twins in terms of the pain: "I feel like I have suffered the toughest experience of my life about several things. One was having twins and anybody who's ever had multiples will know it is one of the most difficult experiences ever but the reward is just beyond—I can't even explain how rewarding having these babies is for me. But yeah, breaking my rib was not festive. Dislocating my shoulder was not a good thing, either."
