Clash Premiere Tally Spear's Just Don't KnowFor Fans Of: Jewel, Joni Mitchell, Zooey Deschanel 'Just Don't Know' is a bit of a step forward from my previous records, both musically and lyrically. The song is carried by an honest narrative in the verses, where I write about some of the inner conflicts and worries of a modern 21 year old (i.e. me!) The song confronts the fact that here in the city there is a lot of pressure on us to know exactly who we are and where we're going. In reality though as much as some of us (me) can try to convince ourselves of how sure we are of everything, we sometimes 'just don't know' all the answers yet. To many Tally Spear may seem like a very clued up and driven 21 year old. The talented songsmith has spent the last year building her name on the live circuit and earning critical applause her compellingly addictive and insightful folk country driven pop compositions. However, as her latest single Just Don’t Know shows, for all the achievements and forthright career strides she has taken, underneath it all Tally is just another 21 year old who is confronted with as many pressures and insecurities as we all are, regardless of our age or abilities. With a clear understanding of both folk storytelling and the hook of pop harmonies, Just Don’t Know is assured self-questioning that leaves you both humming and pondering. While Just Don’t Know explores the personal, Tally does not shy away from exploring perceived social and political issues – notably raised as a vegan, Tally Spear is a keen animal rights advocate and involves this content in her some of her writing. There is much more to 21-year-old songwriter Tally Spear than first meets the eye. Yes, she may be a pretty singer/songwriter who knows how to pen a radio friendly hit, but she is also a deep thinker and powerful poet who will move your heart and mind.
