The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has announced ‘Future Independents’ - a brand new digital conference empowering the next generation of DIY artists, labels, managers and entrepreneurs with the knowledge they need to level up in the modern music industry. This free-to-access event will be broadcast online on Thursday 3 June 2021.

Future Independent’s speakers have all forged successful careers and businesses in independent music. They include the managers of renowned artists AJ Tracey and Nubiyan Twist, plus leading record labels and platforms like Absolute Label Services, Amazon Music, Beggars Group, Black Acre, HQ Recording, Patreon, PPL, Spotify, Stones Throw, Supernature, Tru Tribe, Women in CTRL and YouTube Music.

The topics of the day include: ‘How To Set Up Your First Music Business’, ‘Funding - What’s Available’, ‘Breaking An Artist in 2021’, ‘Live Streaming’, and ‘Choosing Your Release Partners’.

Networking sessions for AIM Members are split into two parts - ‘Meet the Release Partners’ and ‘Meet The Tastemakers’. ‘Meet the Release Partners’ gives attendees the chance to meet the companies that can help them sell and promote their music like Bandcamp, Believe, CD Baby, Ditto Music, SoundCloud and TuneCore. ‘Meet the Tastemakers’ offers an opportunity to meet music champions and editorial staff from key platforms such as Deezer, TikTok and YouTube Music, plus broadcasters Amazing Radio, BBC Music Introducing and Netil Radio.

AIM thanks its Annual Platinum Partners: Amazon Music, Facebook, Merlin, PPL, Spotify and YouTube Music, whose ongoing support helps to make AIM’s annual programming possible. Each of these partners will host their own optimisation workshop at Future Independents, providing attendees with practical tips to improve their presence on each of these key platforms and organisations.

The event comes soon before the launch of AIM’s new Associate Membership tier, which will be available for free to all the clients of AIM’s Distributor Members, providing tens of thousands of early-stage artists and entrepreneurs with free access to crucial industry knowledge, events and resources.

Paul Pacifico, CEO of AIM said: “The independent music community is growing, and it’s AIM’s job to support everyone who is building a business or career within it. From AJ Tracey to Ninja Tune, every project starts out being DIY. With Future Independents and our new associate membership, we are providing the next generation of creative artists and entrepreneurs with the knowledge and networks they need to create, build and win.”

Every attendee will receive a free copy of AIM’s ‘Start-Up Guide to Music Business’ - an essential ‘how to’ on starting and growing a business working with and releasing music.
