Catch Me A Killer stars Charlotte Hope as South Africa's top criminal profiler Micki Pistorius. Catch Me A Killer is being shown on Alibi in the UK and Britbox in the USA.

It's a gripping police drama that sees real-life psychological profiler Micki Pistorius on the hunt for some of the worst serial killers in history.

Game of Thrones star Charlotte Hope plays Micki, who in the 1990s was the first woman who used psychological profiling to help the police get into the minds of mass murderers. Each episode brings to life another of her most high-profile cases, including that of Sipho Thwala, aka the Phoenix Strangler, who murdered 16 women and carried out 10 rapes in Durban's sugarcane fields in 1996, and the Station Strangler, who slaughtered 22 young boys. There's also the ABC Killer, Moses Sithole, whose murderous spree began in Atteridgeville, continued in Boksburg and finished in Cleveland, and 'cannibal killer' Stewart Wilken. The real Micki Pistorius acted as a consultant on the series, which also sees her go through difficult times in her personal life and shows how the weight of catching these monsters took its toll on her.

"Micki was amazing, she really supported me all the way through it," says the show's star, Charlotte. "I really wanted to do her justice and I'm so grateful I got to play her."

The 11-part series Catch Me A Killer premiered in the UK on Alibi on Tuesday March 5 2024 at 9pm, with most episodes running weekly on the channel Episodes one and two are a double bill, as are episodes eight and nine and 10 and 11. Catch Me a Killer is also available on Sky Box Sets and NOW, and also available to stream worldwide from Showmax.

Catch Me a Killer is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Micki Pistorius. A forensic psychologist and university lecturer, she was invited in 1994, with South Africa on the cusp of democracy, to join the police force hunting with no result for the so-called Station Strangler, accused of the murder of 22 young boys.

It then follows her as she moves around South Africa, hunting serial killers by understanding what makes them tick. However, she has her own personal problems to deal with and faces resistance from those who dismiss the science behind her methods.

Gritty, sometimes grisly, Catch Me a Killer is "warts and all." "You don't just have a profiler coming in and solving the case. It's about the effects on her life and her world, it consumed her for six years, where she was doing nothing else than joining police investigations, leading a very peripatetic life across South Africa and getting to grips with some horrific crimes," executive producer Simon Howley (A Tale of Two Thieves) told Variety.

"There are great shows coming out of South Africa. It is relatively untapped in terms of true crime drama. What we tried to do is to make a South African crime series with tropes you wouldn't necessarily expect from South Africa, from drama series such as Mindhunter and Nordic Noir, for example," Howley said.

The series is produced by the UK's Kowalski Films with South African partners LMP.
