Hit comedy White Gold will head back to 80's Essex for a second series for BBC Two

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning confirms today that Damon Beesley's White Gold from Fudge Park Productions will return for a second series, with Ed Westwick, Joe Thomas and James Buckley all donning their shiniest suits once more to continue their raucous exploits as Essex's most notorious double glazing salesmen.

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning says: “Vincent Swan charms his way back on screen alongside this outstanding ensemble cast for another series. The reaction to the first series has been terrific, with an enormous audience boost from the iPlayer box set release. In series two, the swindles spread abroad to cover the Spanish timeshare apartment gold rush. Expect to see Ed Westwick in some tight swimming trunks.”

Damon Beesley, writer, director and co-founder of Fudge Park Productions says: “It’s both an honour and a pleasure to be working with the BBC again on a second series of White Gold. I like to think of it as selling them a series two conservatory to go with their series one patio doors. I’m especially looking forward to watching re-runs of Top of the Pops '85 for 'research'.”

Patrick Holland, Controller, BBC Two says: “I am delighted White Gold is returning to BBC Two next year. The first series was a great new tone on the channel and I can't wait for the audience to see where Vince's schemes and capers take us next time.”

The first series, culminating with the final episode on BBC Two tonight at 10pm, premiered to critical and audience acclaim as the leading men introduced viewers to the sex, drugs and often amoral world of the 1980s double glazing boom. It is BBC Two’s biggest comedy launch of the year, and the second highest comedy of the year on BBC iPlayer, with over five million requests so far (behind Peter Kay’s Car Share).

Charismatic but corrupt salesman Vincent Swan (Westwick), faced a fall from grace as he lost his job, wife, and house in his bid for professional glory. Can he rescue everything with one final gamble in a race to placate the tax man? We’ll see the results in the second series, where Vincent and the Cachet Windows team delve deeper into Essex’s criminal underworld.

A second 6 x 30 series will be filmed in Essex later this year and is set to return to BBC Two in 2018. The series is commissioned by Patrick Holland, Controller, BBC Two and Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning.

With series one available in full on BBC iPlayer after the first episode aired, it has reached double the average young (16-34) audience for a BBC Two comedy, with praise such as:

Metro
"White Gold delivers some of the most outrageous moments you’ll have seen on a TV comedy show all year."

Heat
“With a funny script, dripping in brilliant ‘80s references and hits from our childhood, we’re definitely signing on the dotted line for more.”

The Sun
“…with their egos jostling for pole position, Fitzpatrick, Lavender and Vincent’s laddish banter continues to take our breath away as this sitcom gathers momentum.”

White Gold is produced by Fudge Park Productions, executive producers are Caroline Leddy, Iain Morris and Simon Wilson and the producer is Phil Gilbert. BBC Commissioning Editor is Gregor Sharp. White Gold is distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.
