The BBC has acquired supernatural drama Mayfair Witches, based on the best-selling novels by Anne Rice, for BBC Two and iPlayer.

The eight-part series from AMC NETWORKS stars Emmy®-nominee Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus), Jack Huston (House of Gucci, Fargo), Harry Hamlin (Mad Men) and Tongayi Chirisa (Palm Springs, Antebellum).

Based on Anne Rice’s iconic trilogy, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the series explores female empowerment and the mortal implications of our decisions. The show follows Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers she possesses supernatural abilities and that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Mayfair Witches follows on from the critically acclaimed Interview with the Vampire, also made by AMC NETWORKS and based on the works of Anne Rice, which recently aired on BBC Two and is available in full on iPlayer.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “Mayfair Witches, the second series set in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, conjures up a darkly distinctive and richly atmospheric companion piece to the critically-acclaimed Interview with the Vampire.”

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches (8 x 60) was acquired by the BBC from AMC NETWORKS. Showrunner Esta Spalding (Masters of Sex, On Becoming a God in Central Florida) and Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex, The Pacific, John Adams) are executive producers along with Mark Johnson, Director Michael Uppendahl and Jeff Freilich. The series was directed by Uppendhal (Episode 1 & 2) Axelle Carolyn (Episode 3 & 4), Haifaa al-Mansour (Episode 5 & 6) and Alexis Ostrander (Episode 7 & 8).
