From Thursday 7 September Radio 1’s Residency will continue on Radio 1 and Radio 1 Dance with a brand new line-up of world-renowned DJs including, Shy FX, DJ Tennis, La La, Conducta Manuka Honey and Paula Tape.

Each month, two world renowned DJs will take up a Residency, each week shining a spotlight on the most influential and emerging sounds in Dance and Electronic music.

The line-up for the months of September, October and November is as follows:

• September - La La & Conducta
• October - DJ Tennis & Manuka Honey
• November - Shy FX & Paula Tape

Shy FX

Andre 'Shy FX' Williams has been one of the most influential British producers of the last 25 years. From his ground-breaking jungle anthem 'Original Nuttah', through to his legendary DJ sets and productions, Shy’s ability to fuse sound system culture with electronic futurism and classic song writing has defined the music of successive generations.

Shy says: "It’s an honour to join BBC Radio 1 for a Residency this November. Beyond just music, I’ll be showcasing our culture in all its facets. Each week, journey with me from our roots to the present, diving into future anthems, hidden gems, and classic tracks from the Jungle and Drum & Bass scene. Love always, Shy."

DJ Tennis

DJ Tennis (AKA Manfredi Romano) grew up tour-managing punk bands and organizing left-field music events in Italy before forming DAZE, Italy’s first booking agency solely devoted to electronic music. Drawing on two decades of experience behind the scenes, Romano shifted focus to DJ Tennis, which was established in 2010, and quickly gained worldwide recognition in the electronic music scene. Since then, he frequently plays in renowned clubs such as Circoloco Ibiza, Fabric London and Panorama Bar in Berlin and festivals like Sonar, Timewarp, Primavera Sound and Coachella.

DJ Tennis says: "It’s an absolute privilege to be invited to do a BBC Radio 1 Residency and join the legacy of insanely talented musicians who came before. In my show I will tell stories with an open mind and creative curiosity, bridging different genres and musical histories. One of my first jobs was in Italian radio and I can’t wait to experience this journey together."

La La

Glasgow’s finest, Lauren Andrew (AKA La La) has made waves in recent years, with origins in Edinburgh’s FLY Club and Glasgow’s Sub Club. She stepped out of her native Scotland in 2019 and hit the ground running on the international circuit, regularly playing at world-renowned clubs and festivals, before launching a family of record labels. Her weekly radio shows on Rinse FM, broadcasts on Boiler Room and Mixmag Lab, and guest appearances on BBC Radio 1 have cemented La La as an authority on dance music

La La says: "Ooft. I am beyond excited to have been asked to join the BBC Radio 1 Residency this September, joining the ranks of some of my friends and all time heroes. Turn on, tune in troops, here we go!"

Conducta

An icon and trailblazer in the past seven years, Conducta has led the charge for the resurgence of UK Garage. The producer behind AJ Tracey’s inescapable “Ladbroke Grove” (now triple-platinum and recognised as the biggest-selling UK Garage record in history), Conducta is also the head of Kiwi Rekords, his label which created a hub for a new wave of garage producers to thrive.

Conducta says: "Being a BBC Radio 1 Resident feels like a benchmark in my career and something I take great pride in. Growing up as an upcoming producer it was through the likes of previous DJ’s like Mistajam, Skream and Benga, debuting my music more than a decade ago that gave me a real boost early on in my career. I hope to bring this full circle by not only showcasing the best of new music from across the scene but shining a light on the pioneers & digging deep. I’m grateful to Radio 1 for entrusting me to take the listeners on a journey each show and indulge everyone in the music I love and cherish."

Manuka Honey

Marissa Malik, best known by her stage name Manuka Honey, is a multi-disciplinary artist, DJ and producer at the forefront of Latinx-infused club music coming out of the UK. US-born and London-based, Manuka’s adoration of the Latinx diaspora’s sounds is exuded by her beautifully chaotic DJ sets that have pummelled the sound systems of clubs and festivals internationally.

Manuka Honey says: "BBC Radio 1, I’m ready for you. It’s such an honour to join the Residency. I plan on taking you on a journey through my record collection which has been built out of my obsessions, the generosity of others, and the never ending search for sonic satisfaction. Music has soundtracked the most blissful moments I’ve experienced in this lifetime, and pulled me out of the darkest corners of consciousness. It’s a language we’re all born to understand - a constant way forward through it all. From underground club music to the slow, sensual rhythms, I’m ready to give you everything I’ve got!"

Paula Tape

The Chilean DJ and producer, Paula Tape, is best known for her intricate knowledge of Balearic sounds. Growing up in Santiago De Chile, before moving to Europe, Paula started her musical journey by playing drums for multiple indie bands in her hometown which sparked her DJ inclination for polyrhythmic patterns. The percussive sounds of the drums are a distinct sound which she’s brought into her own productions, remixes and are a key feature of when she plays out DJ sets across the globe.

Paula says: "Getting the chance to do this is extremely special and I'm very honoured as it means a lot to me being a Chilean artist on a BBC Radio 1 Residency! Throughout November I’m going to be bringing you on a mystical journey of my music collection and will be sharing with you some of my favourite gems from all around the world. Hola Mundo, I’m ready for you!"
