ABC are bringing a taste of 80s perfect pop to this year’s Proms in the Park event at Singleton Park and will be performing some of their greatest hits including The Look of Love and Poison Arrow.

Already on the bill are baritone and winner of this year’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition Andrei Kymach and 22 year old saxophonist Xhosa Cole, winner of BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2018 - who will all perform with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, conducted by Robert Ames.

Leading everyone through the evening will be The One Show’s Alex Jones and BBC Radio 1’s Steffan Powell.

ABC’s Martin Fry says: “I am really looking forward to bringing ABC to Proms in the Park at Singleton Park in Swansea on the 14th of September. This will be the first time we have performed with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales.

“Performing with an orchestra is amazing - the buzz of singing with 80 musicians behind you is always incredible.”

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Innovation, Regeneration and Tourism, says: “We’re delighted to be working with BBC Wales once again to deliver BBC Proms In The Park in Swansea next month.

“This is the 13th time for BBC Proms In Ihe Park to come to Swansea and it’s a very popular addition to the city’s cultural programme.

“Swansea is celebrating 50 years of city status this year. With emerging local talent, Shellyann, sharing a stage with established artists, such as ABC, in front of a home crowd, glorious music and the traditional flag-waving and fireworks display, BBC Proms In The Park will provide the thousands of spectators we expect to attend another magnificent opportunity to celebrate and bring down the curtain on a great summer programme of events in Singleton Park.”

Head of Commissioning for BBC Wales, Nick Andrews, says: “BBC Proms In The Park is always a special, dare we say magical, evening of music in a beautiful setting. With a world-class line up of artists this year’s Proms in Swansea promises to be no different.”

The show will transport the audience into outer space, with music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings including Also Sprach Zarathustra by R. Strauss - made famous in 2001: A Space Odyssey, John Williams’ theme from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Lake In The Moonlight by Tchaikovsky.

Visitors are invited to bring picnics, deck chairs and flags to celebrate the Last Night Of The Proms. The evening will end with fireworks and the traditional Last Night Of The Proms medley of sing-a-long numbers, joining with the audience at the Royal Albert Hall and with parks across the UK.

Tickets for the event are on sale and available now.
